What is Primary Health Care?
The main principles of the MHEP model include:

• There is a balance of illness treatment, disease prevention and health promotion and a minimum set of activities for primary healthcare
• An enhanced set of activities would acknowledge and value the phychosocial and environmental health needs of individuals, groups and communities and the health determinants impacting on their health and well-being
• Health promotion is not interpreted as health marketing but as the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health
• Acknowledge the need for flexible, responsive and integrated service delivery
• A brokerage and community development model
